Faithful brothers through and through.
A musical refrain from the school alma mater, "Sing to Thee, Christ School Eternal," sums up the theme of Sunday night's Convocation.
Head of School Dr. Sean Jenkins P'29 reminded the 300 boys on Yard A that there are many days ahead until graduation for the Class of 2026 – 273 days to be exact – and a chance to be active contributors to making Christ School's 126th academic year one for the annals.
“A new year or a new school, it means renewal. All of us, students, faculty, and staff, all of us have a chance with this new school year for renewal," Dr. Jenkins said.
"Use it wisely. Think of who you want to become. What kind of life do you want to live and where do you want it to take you? Take advantage of being here in these formative years surrounded by extraordinary people who will help you realize your goals and dreams. Your time at Christ School will be what you make it – be serious in your studies, get involved in clubs and community service, work hard, laugh often, and keep your honor. Godspeed to each of you this year, may it be one you remember most.”
Day Student Prefect Jackson Cancel '26, who is from Asheville, was voted to be Head Prefect by his peers and gave a stirring speech Sunday. Jackson stated his belief that true masculinity can be found in expressions of kindness and love, not bravado. Everyone should emulate the strength shown by Christ in the Bible, he added.
In times of difficulty and doubt, Jackson said to "lean on your brothers because we will always be there to pick you back up."
Christ School begins classes Tuesday with a student body that emanates from 15 different states and nine countries. There are 90 new students this year and the Jenkins family hosted a social for these Greenies with ice cream, lemonade, cookies, and lawn games immediately following Convocation.
