Max Masiello ’20 Sharpens Business Acumen at Indiana Camp

OLAB

Max Masiello ’20 got down to business this summer.

The Greenie senior earned a full scholarship to the 47th annual OLAB (Opportunities to Learn About Business) program held July 7-14 at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind.

Max joined boys and girls from eight U.S. states and Japan for OLAB. It is considered one of America's top summer business programs for high school students.

Max’s takeaways were that the camp, designed to be a hands-on introduction to business and the market economy, was incredibly fun and one of the best educational experiences he has had. Max’s five-person team ended the week by creating a prize-winning video advertisement for a mock telephone business.

OLAB is set up like this: Teams are assigned the task of selling a similar product with unique characteristics. Each day of the program is a new business quarter, and teams must consider factors that affect businesses of all sizes – production, marketing, pricing, labor costs, public relations, and stockholders. They design corporate logos, develop ideas for print and TV advertisements, present stockholder speeches, and finally pitch their ad campaigns to a panel of judges.

Students are educated throughout the week by local businessmen and the Wabash faculty.

Max and the rest of Christ School’s Class of 2020 will return to campus Aug. 15 for registration, with their Commencement scheduled for May 17, 2020.
