Max Field '20, Kiki Alcime '20 Win TV Awards

Max Field

Local television station WMYA (40) rewarded the academics and citizenship of Max Field ’20 and Kiki Alcime ’20 during Friday’s broadcast of the varsity football game between Christ School and Charlotte Christian.

Max was named the Arby’s/WMYA Friday Night Rivals Scholar Athlete of the Week. The senior from Asheville maintains a 4.76 grade-point average. Max is a member of the National Honor Society, an Advanced Placement Scholar, Chair of Service Learning, and co-founder of Christ School’s Medical Interest Club.

Kiki won the Arby’s/WMYA Friday Night Rivals Making a Difference – Inspirational Student Award. The senior from Abaco, Bahamas, is enjoying his best season yet as a defensive lineman, averaging 7.6 tackles per game. Kiki has been a positive influence, on and off the field, for the Greenies (4-2) despite the disruption in his home country caused by Hurricane Dorian.

Max and Kiki received plaques and were interviewed by WMYA.

Friday also proved to be a valuable learning experience for Christ School Broadcast Network’s crew.

John Dunn ‘20 volunteered with WMYA as a replay coordinator. He packaged pregame interviews and sent those videos to the station for playback. The full CSBN team started the night with a tour of WMYA’s on-site production facilities. Kelly Long, a producer for WMYA, gave the boys a tour of the production and satellite trucks, camera operations, and answered questions from CSBN crew members.

Digital Media Specialist Ross Weathersbee '10 said the Greenies enjoyed the chance to learn from professionals.
