Kingston Whitty '26 Commits to N.C. State Basketball

The world of college basketball works in mysterious ways. Never more so than 2026.

Kingston Whitty ’26 committed to play at the next level for West Virginia University last October before his first game as a Greenie. It wasn't meant to be a tenuous commitment by any means, but Kingston had no control over outside forces.

Some major college teams have completely rebuilt their rosters, largely through the transfer portal. N.C. State and UNC-Chapel Hill are among the local programs of interest who have changed head coaches. And it was reported Tuesday that the NCAA Tournament will soon expand to 76 teams.

A day later, Kingston announced through his social media that he will become Christ School’s 11th ACC basketball player since 2005 by playing for N.C. State. He is new Wolfpack coach Justin Gainey’s first high school signing.

Kinston had previously reopened his recruitment on April 9, which opened the possibility to play at the next level alongside Mikey Wilkins ’25.

Kingston is a 6-foot-2 guard from the Atlanta area who averaged 15.1 points, a team-high 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game for the Greenies (21-13). He made the second-most 3-pointers (41).
