The term “Renaissance man” gets thrown around a lot at Christ School, but never enough with a Greenie like Kahzi Sealey ’23.

Kahzi juggles a schedule full of AP classes with his duties as a Proctor in Young House. His lyricism, flow, and stage presence has made rapping way more than a hobby – Kahzi won January’s first-ever Asheville’s Got Talent competition.

But what he is best at is running.

Kahzi took up the sport two years ago for the challenge and discipline, which might sound odd for someone whose home country is known for its laid-back vibe and pink sand beaches. Pride in Bermuda will be Kahzi’s motivation next month when he represents its people in the 50th annual Carribean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) Games. The three-day event will be April 8-10 in the Bahamas. Kahzi is entered in two middle-distance races – the 500 meters and 1,500 meters.

“The opportunity to represent his country is tremendous and Kahzi is in a really good spot with the way he’s been running,” Greenies coach Randy Ashley said.

“He’s put in the hard work. He’s got a lot of good support and I think he’s really capable of something special (soon).”

Coach Ashley pointed out that Kahzi ran 1:53 in a recent 800-meter time trial with Dawson Reeves ’24, who holds the Christ School record for that two-lap race (1:52.83) Kahzi’s personal record for the 1,500 is 4:07.53, which happened earlier this month at the Nike Indoor Nationals meet in New York.

He ran his PR for cross country (16:07.40) at October's NCISAA 4-A state meet, placing ninth overall to earn all-state recognition for the back-to-back state champion Greenies.

Coach Ashley said that Kahzi would have run in last year’s CARIFTA Games, but he was injured. He is still exploring his college options but does plan to continue his career after graduation.
