Inaugural Krieger Leadership Scholars Announced

Krieger Leadership Scholars (KLS) fit the archetype of what Christ School is looking for in a student. Young men of character with proven leadership in the classroom, a willingness to serve, and an eagerness to grow who will always find a pathway to the best version of themselves. But just as there are no carbon copies or predetermined molds in this unique brotherhood, candidates for the inaugural year of the KLS program needed to be exceptional.

KLS Scholars

Christ School is pleased to announce that Jack Greganti ’27 of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Wait McCormick ’26 of Winston-Salem, N.C., were awarded the first KLS scholarships. Jack and Wait impressed the selection committee with not only their qualifications on paper, but their confident demeanor through multiple rounds of on-campus interviews.

“I’m very grateful. I’m very happy and very excited. I’ve never really had something like this happen to me,” Jack said. “I’m looking forward to the community, all the boys being together. It’s unique. You don’t really get this at many places.”

The KLS Program is an endowed merit scholarship named for former Headmaster Paul Krieger P’09, P’12, who led the school through a 21-year period of unprecedented prosperity and growth before retiring in 2021. One full domestic boarding scholarship and one quarter boarding scholarship will be open each year to new applicants entering the 8th, 9th, or 10th grade. Recipients retain their scholarship throughout their time at Christ School.

Jack feels like the Blue Ridge Mountains will be the perfect environment for him to thrive. Wait aspires to be a sports broadcaster and is already looking forward to calling his first game for the Christ School Broadcast Network.

“It’s incredible. Obviously, it’s historic. Christ School is really big on traditions, and it’s really cool to be the first of a big tradition that will come for many years,” Wait said.

Watch for more on both scholars in future Christ School publications. To find out more about the Krieger Leadership Scholars program, including the nomination process, visit this link or contact Krieger Leadership Scholars Program Director, Eric Thorp (ethorp@christschool.org).
