No one knows Christ School soccer better than Guy Campbell ’00.

He has been involved with the program as a coach or player for 16 years now, striving to give every Greenie the same positive experience that he had, on and off the field.

Coach Campbell is not only proud of the past, but excited about what the future holds as Christ School’s Soccer Program Director. The position includes head-coaching duties for a varsity team that won nine games without any seniors in 2021.

“This team is ready to take that next step to battling for conference championships again, battling for a top-four seed in the state playoffs, nothing short of that,” Coach Campbell said Thursday.

“We’re a confident group and a confident program. The kids have worked their tails off and shown great attitudes, we couldn’t ask for a better group of kids returning. We knew there would be a learning curve the past two years and we put the boys in certain situations where it was more about their development than worrying about wins and losses. It’s made us a very tight-knit group.”

Coach Campbell has won 121 games and four Carolinas Athletic Association championships as a varsity head coach at Christ School. Seven of his teams have reached the NCISAA state playoffs, 18 players have been named all-state, and five continued their careers in college.

Outside the high school season, Coach Campbell has coached with the Asheville City Soccer Club since 2019. He is an assistant for the men’s USL League Two team this year.

Coach Campbell’s longtime support for Christ School in general was recognized last year at Alumni Weekend when he received the Bill Sewell ’57 Service and Loyalty Award.

Athletic Director Josh Coley said that Coach Campbell’s experience as a high-level coach in the Asheville and Christ School community made him a natural pick to be Soccer Program Director.

The first official day of practice for NCISAA teams is Aug. 2.

Among the key returners for the Greenies are all-state midfielder Carter Compton ’24 and All-Carolinas Athletic Association defenders Brendan Regan ’24 and Jackson Knoll ’23, as well as the team’s two leading scorers from a year ago – Ethan Rose ’24 (seven goals, two assists), and Truett Compton ‘25 (six goals, eight assists).
