Josh Coley sat back and smiled Tuesday as his assistants and players assured the coach that they could run a portion of the Christ School Basketball Camp on their own.

Coach Coley has been smiling a lot lately.

The 2021-22 edition of the Greenies created some nice buzz over Twitter with their play at the NCISAA Live Session Summer Showcase held over the past two weekends in Winston-Salem.

More importantly, college coaches were impressed by what they saw. In fact, Wake Forest University offered a scholarship to Bryson Cokley ’24, one of the new additions to Coach Coley’s first team at Christ School.

“This is a good group of young men. They’re just great kids who have bonded together in a short amount of time,” Coach Coley said.

“When you’ve only had two practices together, you don’t know what exactly what you’re going to get, so we just ask them to play hard and they have. Every game we played, there were 15-20 college coaches there and it was a blessing to have our guys play in front of them. Each game we have had, we have gotten better. I’m proud of them."

The group that traveled just a couple hours down Interstate 40 for the Showcase games included Ty Besses ’22, Donovan Fitzgerald ’22, Quinton Cancel ’23, Emanuel Richards ’23, Anthony Robinson ’23, Matthew Pethel ’23, T.J. Hamilton ’24, Bryson, Cole Boyer ’24, Carter Compton ’24, and Bruce White ’24.

Close to 60 kids ages 9 to 14 registered for this week’s Christ School Basketball Camp which runs through Thursday.

"We've gotten some great support from the community," Coach Coley said. "And the kids are doing a phenomenal job."
