Born out of tragedy, sustained by purpose.
A National Day of Service and Remembrance was first inspired by one of the worst days in American history – September 11, 2001.
Christ School students and faculty have since been part of their own observance for the past 15 years, even though our Day of Service is very much a small part of a year-round commitment to service learning.
As in the past, Wednesday was a break from classes with afternoon reflection in the Father Kirk Brown Outdoor Chapel. Groups assigned by advisory fanned out to 25 different sites around the Asheville area. Some of the boys stayed on campus to practice on-campus maintenance around the outdoor chapel or make sandwiches for Asheville residents in need of food.
