Greenies Spread Goodwill on Day of Service

Christ School held its annual Day of Service on Wednesday, with the boys volunteering throughout the Asheville community.

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”

Albert Einstein gifted the world many pearls of wisdom, including a quotation that the boys embodied on Wednesday – Christ School’s annual Day of Service. Greenies spread goodwill throughout the Asheville area, volunteering for non-profits and charities at more than 30 different sites.

Father John Roberts instructed everyone to “be Greenies out there,” at the conclusion of a morning Chapel service meant to bless Wednesday’s trips. Commemorative green Day of Service t-shirts contained the school logo on the front and Einstein’s quote stripped across the back.

The entire student body and faculty participated with time set aside for reflection and an outdoor Eucharist Chapel service in the afternoon.

Christ School’s Service Learning program is emphasized year-round (every student is required to perform at least 15 hours), and the Day of Service is typically held this time of year to line up with the September 11 National Day of Service.

Day of Service was cancelled in 2020 as a precaution against COVID-19.
