ARCADIA, Calif. – Brooks Barbee ’27 ran in a different time zone Saturday, in more ways than one.
Brooks hung with some of the country’s best runners to record North Carolina’s best-ever time by a junior in the 3,200-meter run (8 minutes, 40.79 seconds) at the Arcadia Invitational in California.
Race winner Jackson Spencer from Herriman (Utah) set a national record for the eight-lap event (8:31.80), which is typically the longest race at most high school meets. The 3,200 record for Christ School and North Carolina belongs to Rocky Hansen ’23 (8:32.46).
Three others Greenies made the trip to California and ran splendidly as well – Reynolds Young ’27 (8:58.98), Dallas Reeves ’27 (9:05.72), and Iona University recruit Noah Clancy '26 (9:10.95). Reynolds is only the fourth Greenie to break 9 minutes in the 3,200.
