Competitive sports are slowly resuming and it is obvious that two Christ School golfers have been polishing their shot-making and putting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Charles Howden ’22 (boys 16-18) and Jamal Hutchinson ’23 (boys 14-15) won their age divisions at the National Junior Golf Association Players Championship held Saturday and Sunday in Travelers Rest, S.C.

Charles came from behind to win the overall NJGA championship by seven strokes, too. He finished strong with a final round of four-under 68, including seven birdies, after shooting 84 the day before at the Cherokee Valley Club.

Jamal saved his best golf for Sunday as well, rallying to win his division by one stroke with a 36-hole total of 161 (86-75). Jamal recently received a complimentary membership to the Country Club of Asheville as part of McConnell Golf's High School Golf Scholarship Program.

Christ School’s golf team only got to play two dual matches this spring before the season was cancelled. The Greenies tied Metrolina Christian and came in second to Charlotte Latin. The Greenies were the NCISAA 4-A state runner-up in 2019.
