MARION – With a name like the Frostbite Frenzy, the organizers of last Thursday’s track meet at McDowell High School did not expect conducive weather for sprinting.
It’s March after all, a month when many athletes are still shaking off the winter doldrums and essentially starting from square one in terms of their strength and fitness.
Myles Murphy ’27 was having none of that.
The Greenie was on his own for the Frostbite Frenzy's 100-meter dash, but everyone certainly felt a Christ School presence in the stadium 10.72 seconds later. Myles not only won the race handily but broke a seven-year-old school record (10.84) that had been shared by a pair of multi-state champions from the Class of 2019 – Keyvaun Cobb ’19 and Kevin Snyder ’19.
Fully Automatic Timing – which removes human error – was utilized for Thursday’s meet, and there was no indication of wind noted in the results. Milesplit North Carolina has ranked Myles's time as one of the 10 best by any statewide sprinter this outdoor season. He ran both Thursday and the day before in a home meet against Carolina Day.
The junior from Fletcher, N.C., shared the track team’s 2025 Most Improved Athlete Award with Chyance King ’28 after placing sixth in the 100 meters at the Carolinas Athletic Association Championship Meet with a time (11.41) that helps indicate how far he has come in less than a year.
