Director of College Guidance Visits With 21 Young Alumni

Nashville

Director of College Guidance Kirk Blackard has been heartened to see so many young alumni thriving at their colleges.

Christ School began Winter Break on Friday and Mr. Blackard has since been using the time to check in on Greenies throughout the Southeast.

He made a stop in Knoxville, Tenn., last weekend to visit with University of Tennessee students James Turley ‘17, Ferrell Lail ‘20, Charlie Browder ‘21, and Gabe Blevins ‘18. Aaron Chen ‘20 and Bevin Zheng ‘21 attend Vanderbilt University and greeted Mr. Blackard in Nashville, while Henry Muller ’20 and Mac Gortney ’19 are students at Sewanee (Tenn.): The University of the South.

Finally, Mr. Blackard learned more about the college experiences of Ben Capel ‘21 and Charlie Bell ‘21 in Birmingham, Ala., home to Samford University.

Mr. Blackard was on the campuses of Alabama and Auburn on Tuesday where he checked in on William Dodenhoff '19 and Bruce Capel '21, and then Adam Pollard '18 and Jack Knott '20.

The trip came to an end Wednesday in South Carolina with Greenies who now attend Clemson, Furman, or Wofford. Those alumni include Grant Ruch '21, Ross Oakley '19, Jack Galbraith '20, John Beard '18, Logan Easler '19, James Treadaway '20, and Hank Pritchard '19.

In all, Mr. Blackard saw nine different universities in four days and traveled close to 1,200 miles. He is happiest to report that he touched base with 21 Greenies, encouraging them to follow their path.

Mr. Blackard has been Director of College Guidance for 18 years. He and his staff pride themselves on finding the best possible fit for each student and giving personal attention that begins as soon as a boy enrolls at Christ School.
