Cross Country Shows Balance, Speed at Hare & Hounds

CHARLOTTE – What a test run.

From the competition to the course, Saturday became essentially a preview of next month’s N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 4-A state meet. Christ School cross country gave every other team fair warning with an equally impressive showing of balance and speed.

The Greenies comfortably won the Hare & Hounds Invitational with 40 points, defeating last year’s NCISAA 4-A champion Cary Academy (98 points) by virtue of seven runners completing the 3.1-mile McAlpine Creek Park course in under 16 minutes.

Brooks Barbee ‘27 came in third place overall (15 minutes, 17.90 seconds), followed by Dallas Reeves ‘27 (fifth, 15:30.90), Reynolds Young ‘27 (seventh, 15:36.00), Noah Clancy ’26 (15:47.40), Brody Webb ‘27 (17th, 15:53.60), Jack Dennehy ‘27 (19th, 15:58.00), and Timmy McDowell ‘27 (22nd, 15:59.30).

Cary Academy senior Kavi Gibson (14:50.70) was the individual winner, however the Greenies countered by putting four runners between the No. 1 and No. 2 finishers for the Chargers.

Hewitt Trussville from Alabama came in third place in the team standings, while Hough (333) was fourth and Charlotte Latin (343) was fifth.

The NCISAA 4-A state meet is just over a month away, it will be run October 24 at McAlpine.
