God’s grace was shining down on St. Joseph’s Chapel this morning.
What an indescribable honor and a blessing it was to have Bishop William Willimon P’94 be our guest for the Holy Eucharist service.
Bishop Willimon is a former member of Christ School's Board of Trustees, retired theologian, and bishop in the United Methodist Church. He currently serves as Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry and Director of the Doctor of Ministry program at Duke Divinity School and was formerly Dean of the Chapel at Duke University for two decades. Bishop Willimon has authored more than 80 books with over 1 million copies sold. His son, Will '94, currently serves on Christ Schol's Board of Trustees.
In his sermon, Bishop Willimon talked about how there is more going around us then we often see or understand. In light of the Gospel reading where John the Baptist baptizes Jesus and the heavens open, he said that “maybe reality is richer” than what we can objectively perceive. Bishop Willimon added that “the Bible loves to tease you and coax you into imaginative consideration that there’s more going on than you know how to describe; the Bible urges us to expect more.”
After chapel, Bishop Willimon joined the students and faculty in Stolz Dining Hall’s Bradshaw Room for a “Lunch and Learn,” where the boys could ask him more about his remarkably accomplished career and experiences.
