Les Thornbury: Why I Teach at Christ School
Former Navy fighter pilot teaches Spanish to Greenies
Second-year Spanish teacher Les Thornbury has lived on the edge. The Navy veteran used to pilot F-18 Hornet fighter jets off the deck of the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier. He was so good at it that the Navy made Thornbury a flight instructor, where he got the itch to teach. Along with his role in the Christ School World Languages department, Thornbury is a dorm parent for the Harris House and involved with the Outdoor Program. He is one of two instructors for this semester's rock-climbing team.
