Mason Plumlee '09 Makes USA Basketball Team
Congratulations to Mason Plumlee '09, who is now a member of USA Basketball's national team along with 11 other NBA pros. He will represent the USA in Spain for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup August 30 - September 14, 2014.
“It’s quite an honor to be added to the National Team.” Mason said. “I am very much looking forward to... representing our country as a member of USA Basketball.”
Managing director Jerry Colangelo stated that selecting the athletes was a grueling process. "Since taking over the USA Basketball Men's National Team program in 2005, this was without doubt the most difficult selection process we've gone through... I can't stress enough the outstanding effort and commitment that has been given by each finalist."
“It’s been a great experience, and whatever happens, I’m grateful for the opportunity to work out with the team,” Plumlee said after Team USA’s 112-86 exhibition victory over Puerto Rico at Madison Square Garden.
While at Christ School, Mason helped lead the Greenies basketball team to three NCISAA 3-A championships, posted 20 double-doubles as a senior, and led Christ School in three statistical categories – scoring (15.3 points a game), rebounds (10.1 a game) and blocks (2.5 a game). In 2009 Mason was named WNC Player of the Year.
