Jonathan followed up that victory by winning the North Carolina High School Invitational on April 14 with a round of 69 (3 under par). Jonathan, who was the runner-up to Chris Akers in last year's Buncombe tournament, explained to Andrew Pearson of the Asheville Citizen-Times that this windy day left the golfers with tough playing conditions. “You realized early on that the scores weren’t going to be very low on a day like this. I just told myself that I had to stay patient.” These achievements made Jonathan one of the Citizen-Times/Western North Carolina Spring Sports Athletes of the Week and WLOS's Game Changer this week. Coach David Gaines told WLOS that Jonathan "has a gift for the game and hand-eye coordination is outstanding." In addition to Jonathan and Chris Akers each scoring a 76, the Greenies registered a score of 78 from both Michael Freeman '16 and Thomas Garbee '16. This led their victory over Carolina Day by 16 shots. This was the 5th straight Buncombe County Tournament win for the Greenies. “The chemistry on this team is incredible,” Jonathan said to Pearson. Jonathan's golf career is impressive: he was an All-Carolinas Athletic Association and NCISAA 3-A all-state selection in 2013. He has also maintained a stroke average of 72.9 for 18 holes. Last year, he committed to playing for Clemson University. Buncombe Tournament top team scores: 1.
