Stephen Bridges '14 Wins
NCISAA Wrestling State Championship 2014
To finish out his senior year at Christ School, Stephen Bridges ’14 won the NCISAA Wrestling State Championship in High Point, NC for his weight class at 220 pounds with a first period pin on February 15, 2014. Stephen is the first Greenie in 12 years to win the Championship.
Stephen is from Morganton, NC, and came to Christ School for the beginning of his junior year from a boarding school in Minnesota.
Stephen’s natural ability as an athlete combined with his painstaking preparation has led him far on the field. In football, he was named to the NCISAA All-State Team for Division II, as well as to the All-Conference team and the Asheville Citizen-Times All Western Team. In soccer, he played center back for the two time state cup champion and Southeast Regional semi-finalist ’94 HFC Red (Highland Football Club / Asheville). Also in soccer, he was named All-State as a sophomore while attending Patton High School (Public 3A) in Morganton, N.C.
Stephen started on the varsity soccer team in addition to kicking for the football team during his junior year. Stephen is a proctor in Harris House and is a preferred walk-on as a kicker for Appalachian State University next year. In the future he aspires to be a competitive CrossFit Games athlete.
Stephen is a dedicated athlete and a diligent student. Our mathematics instructor and Stephen’s advisor Mr. Parham explains, “I have really come to admire this young man… I admire most his preparation, which permeates his academics, kicking, and weightlifting.”
Congratulations, Stephen!
