Champ Stuart '10 signs with New York Mets
First Greenie drafted by Major League Baseball Signs Professional Contract
It's official: Champ Stuart has signed a professional contract with the New York Mets along with 10 other picks from the First-Year Player Draft.
Stuart was selected by the New York Mets in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball draft (176th overall) on June 7, 2013, making him Christ School’s first alumnus drafted by a Major League Baseball franchise.
Stuart signed with the New York Mets on Wednesday, June 12. His father stated that Champ then trained with the team at their facility in Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
Stuart will play alongside new recruits right-hander Ricky Knapp, outfielder Patrick Biondi, shortstop Luis Guillorme, and many more.
Stuart's mother, Cicely Stuart, explained “it means a whole lot because that was always his dream, and that was something we always supported... We are excited for him, and we will continue to encourage him to stay hungry and humble.”
