Greenies Wrap Up Their Time in Spain

Salamanca, Spain cast a spell on Christ School boys many years ago.

To this day, the grandiose architecture and history-filled spaces speak to them. The exotic food, live entertainment, cooking, and tours still translate as well, with every enticement orbiting around Spanish classes at Colegio Delibes.

Six students accompanied World Languages instructor Christiane Swoap and her husband, Bob, for a true cultural immersion from May 20-June 2.

Greenies walked along the 2,000-year-old Roman Bridge and had the good fortune of seeing the International Arts Festival take over the Plaza Mayor (main square). They marveled at the medieval walled city of Ávila, and for different reasons, Bernabéu, the home stadium of the Real Madrid soccer team. They filled their stomachs with authentic tapas and were good sports for Salsa and Bachata dance lessons.

The trip’s final day included a visit to the Salamanca Central Market, where the boys said goodbye to their teachers, with lots of compliments in return. Then there was a cooking class where the boys made a Spanish tortilla and fruit drinks. Finally, they visited the Barrio del Oeste (west neighborhood), a trendy artists district where the Greenies emulated what they saw in the street murals.
