Greenies Race to Second Win with 49 First-Half Points

With the advent of a running clock, the school record for single-game points (102 vs. Biltmore High School in 1921) is probably safe.

Probably.

The Greenies were nearly on pace at halftime Friday night. Jackson Tolbert ‘27 (three) and Hudson Pressley ‘28 (two) combined to throw five touchdown passes and Christ School varsity football rested many of its starters for the third and fourth quarters of a 49-12 home win over Cardinal Newman (S.C.).

On the receiving end of those passes were Zach Byrd ‘28 (85 yards), Dre Smith ‘27 (37 and 36), Jayden White ‘26 (27), and Jackson Cancel ’26 (4). Jackson Cancel also ran for a 1-yard score at the 5:49 mark of the second quarter and Linkin Stevens ‘27 picked up a fumble and returned it 12 yards for a touchdown. Niko Andrews '26 set up the Greenies' second touchdown with a punt return down to the Cardinals' 4-yard line.

The score was 35-0 after the first quarter and 49-0 at the half, which means the clock ran continuously in the second half. Jordan Dalton ’26 and Camden Long-White ’29 made interceptions for the defense and Andrew Midkiff ’28 forced a fumble.

Christ School improves to 2-1 and is back home next Friday for a 7 p.m. home game with Concord Christian (Tenn.).
