Greenies Heed Lessons on MLK Day

Discussion
Students and faculty discussed films with civil rights themes over lunch Monday, as part of Christ School's activities for Martin Luther King Day.

With heightened tensions across the country, Monday was a timely chance for Christ School to pause as it does every year and reflect on the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is – ‘What are you doing for others?’” is one of Dr. King’s most famous quotations and has been central to the school’s annual MLK Day activities.

Greenies have typically participated in a march through downtown, prayer breakfast, and candlelight service in Asheville. All of those functions were held virtually this year due to COVID-19.

Monday’s special programming began with a morning Chapel service and the boys then broke into different groups to study films with civil rights themes. These movies sparked discussion and each Greenie wrote down his own personal takeaways, with those reflections due at the end of the school day.

Christ School resumed in-person learning on Jan. 11. For more information about the Spring Semester, go to https://www.christschool.org/covid-19-spring-semester.
