Greenies Expand Their Horizons on Enrichment Day

Biltmore

Much like the boys they teach, no two faculty members at Christ School are exactly alike.

Wednesday was a chance for those men and women to share their unique interests and passions with the Greenies through another special Asheville School Week event, Enrichment Day.

Faculty came up with the idea and description for their program. The boys were then allowed to sign up on a first come, first serve basis for what appealed to them the most.

There was something for everyone.

For example, Greenies toured historic downtown Asheville and local mainstay the Biltmore Estate, as well as the BMW Zentrum museum and factory in Greer, S.C. Cultural and creative workshops were held on-campus. Dean of Students Drew Hyche ’94 showed his group how to deep-fry a turkey in the driveway of his home with assistance from Coordinator of Student Life Outreach Travis Harris.

Assistant Director of College Guidance Alyssa Belcher introduced Greenies to the acrobatics of aerial silks which are used in circus performances. History instructor and U.S. Army veteran Colin Billings provided the context for a walk around the Cowpens (S.C.) National Battlefield, site of the Battle of Cowpens in the Revolutionary War.

Wednesday’s seasonal weather was conducive to popular recreational outlets like fly-fishing, whitewater-kayaking, mountain-biking, zip-lining, archery, and sand volleyball.

Enrichments are held two to three times a year at Christ School and in lieu of a regular class schedule. They are intended to expose students to something completely different and establish deeper connections with the faculty.
