Greenies Bring Flair, Musical Chops to Asheville's Got Talent

Ethan Christie '27, left, and Johnny Barlas.

David Gaines ’26 broke out a double-necked guitar in 2026, a mic drop moment in and of itself.

Wood Lovell ’28 copped Jimi Hendrix’s iconic look and behind-the-back playing with another one of Saturday’s bands. Mike Burgos Resendiz ’28 went a more personal route for his solo performance, singing in Spanish and playing a traditional Mexican 12-string guitar. And finally, the international duo of Ethan Christie ’27 and Johnny Barlas ’28 stole Christ School’s portion of the show with a heartfelt ballad belted out by a Greenie football player.

Asheville’s Got Talent is fast becoming a tradition that brings out the pure artistry and true personalities of its performers.

The fourth annual competition between Christ School, Asheville School, and Carolina Day returned to the downtown Diana Wortham Theatre, with the encore being a jam session.

Judges awarded Ethan and Johnny second place for their cover of John Legend’s “All of Me.” Ethan is from London and had never sung along to Johnny on piano until he stayed with the Barlas family in Asheville over the 2025 Thanksgiving Break.
