Greenies Begin New Year

Convocation

Each of Christ School’s 119 years have been unique, and yet the values of a Greenie remain timeless.

Headmaster Paul Krieger gave his customary opening address Sunday in Convocation, asking 287 boys to be humble and positive, treat people kindly, get involved, and appreciate the worth of character.

“You are coming back to some hallowed ground,” Mr. Krieger said. “But you didn’t return to the same place because you are not the same. This year, there will be new possibilities, new challenges, new people, new opportunities.”

Christ School’s student body for the 2019-20 school year is comprised of boys from 18 different states and eight countries. Seventy-one seniors will be counted on for leadership in the school community between now and graduation on May 17, 2020. The eighth grade class is exceptionally-large this year with 32 new Greenies.

Sunday’s Convocation was noteworthy for several reasons.

Joe Massey '65, whose patronage has made a new organ possible, played for the Greenies over a sound system in St. Joseph’s Chapel that is also newly-updated. To show the school’s appreciation, Mr. Krieger presented Massey with a diploma.

Father John Roberts led his first Convocation service as Chaplain. The faculty and staff were introduced by Principal Ron Ramsey and Dean of Academics and Curriculum Greg Townsend.

Monday and Tuesday will be filled with orientation for the Greenies, leading into Wednesday’s start to regular classes.
