Beyond the front gate of Christ School is a big world awaiting the Class of 2022.

Sixty-one Greenies have been equipped with everything they need to succeed and thrive for many years to come, no matter where life takes them.

Each of Sunday’s Commencement Speeches to the Class of 2022 had some variation of this theme, masterfully delivered by Morehead-Cain Scholar Ty Besses ’22, Teacher of the Year Hamid Najafi, and Head of School Dr. Sean Jenkins.

“While at Christ School, you learned independence, honor, civility, and humility. You learned to work hard, set high expectations, and to serve the common good. You don’t leave this culture behind. You take it with you to all of those communities, careers, and people ahead in your lives. You take the best of this place with you on your road ahead,” Dr. Jenkins said.

“You also learned discipline and responsibility at Christ School. Ahead is your opportunity to use it in the world, to advance your own lives, better the lives of others, as well as the institutions you will join and eventually lead.”

The Class of 2022 walked across the stage to receive their diplomas and Bibles on a sunny, picture-perfect morning in Yard A.

This senior class overcame more than most in Christ School’s 122-year history.

Back in August, when the community gathered for Convocation with a record-high enrollment of 295 boys, the ceremony was held outdoors. Masks were required for all students and faculty for the entire Fall Semester and Christmas Break had to be extended due to the pandemic as well. The boys returned in January full of the leadership and spirit that carried the school through an otherwise uninterrupted year of in-person learning, chock full of the traditions that Greenies hold dear.

The Class of 2022 is headed next to colleges in 21 different states and Canada, aided by 77 scholarships with a total worth of more than $5 million.

Sunday’s graduating seniors were:
