Greenies Begin New Year

Boys from 18 different states and eight countries can still find commonalities.

Paul Krieger has seen Christ School at its best in such moments since becoming Headmaster in 2002. That call for unity and more were part of his introductory remarks to all Greenie students and faculty during Sunday night's Convocation in St. Joseph's Chapel.

Convocation marks the official start to the 2018-19 school year.

Krieger encouraged the boys to be active participants and do the little things that don't require talent. "Ordinary people do extraordinary things," Krieger reminded them, as well as asking that the students show humility, help those who need it, remain positive, and have fun.

"I hope you will have the desire to challenge yourself, grow, and become men," Krieger said.

Assistant Headmaster Jeff Miles and Director of Academics & Curriculum Brooke Depelteau also spoke Sunday during a service led by Father Kirk Brown. Convocation wrapped up a busy weekend for the Greenies, many of whom registered either Friday or Saturday.

Christ School's six dorms (Cuningham, Gardner, Harris, Noland, South Carolina, and Young) competed for bragging rights Saturday in the annual Field Games. South Carolina House was the winner, with Young in second place, and Noland in third. Sunday began with Form Trips, allowing the boys to reacquaint or meet other Greenies in their same grade level. The 10th, 11th and 12th grade classes rafted and tubed local rivers. The 8th and 9th grade classes started with on-campus initiatives before moving on to a ropes course at Montreat College.

Orientation continues through Tuesday with classes set to begin Wednesday. This year's senior class will be one of the largest in school history with 73 boys. Commencement for Christ School's 119th graduating class is scheduled for May 19.
