The Plane

Boys in the Robert Morgan '36 Aviation Program have exclusive access to their own plane.

"Greenie1" is a 1998 American Champion Citabria, a single engine, two-seat plane that gives pilots the feel of flying solo, even with their instructor sitting behind them.

Citabrias are a popular craft for training because of their conventional gear and aerobatic capabilities. Greenie1 is housed at a small airport in Hendersonville, N.C., about 18 miles from Christ School's campus. The plane was purchased for use by the school by retired Air Force pilot Stephen Hoffert P'26, an instructor in the program.

The generosity of two more sets of parents made it possible for the program to add a FAA-approved BATD (Basic Aviation Training Device) flight simulator. With the simulator, students are allowed to log an additional 2.5 hours of flight time towards the requirements for a Private Pilot License (PPL).
