Event Recap: Christ School won a key matchup against Cannon School at home. The Greenies got excellent pitching from both Will Wynn (5 innings, 7 strikeouts, and only 1 unearned run) and Zach Thurman (2 shutout innings in relief and 3 strikeouts to earn the win). The offense used a 2 out rally in the 6th to score the winning runs.
Will Wynn started the game strong by setting down the first 9 batters he faced and getting 4 of his strikeouts in the first 3 innings. Although the Cougars got on the board in the 4th inning, helped by a throwing error, the defense came up with a key inning ending double play to limit the Cougars to 1 run and tie the game.
Christ School got their run in the 2nd inning when Josh King had a lead off single, stole 2nd base and scored on Christian Jewkes RBI single. The Greenies then went into the bottom of the 6th still tied at 1-1. After the 1st 2 batters grounded out, Andrew Wiggins singled and Trae Sweeting was intentionally walked. Josh King's RBI single scored Wiggins, Sweeting scored on a wild pitch, and King scored on Jewkes RBI triple.
Thurman only faced 3 batters in the final inning to secure the victory over a 3A state competitor, as the Greenies improve to 4-1-1 for the season.
