The Arts

Christ School creates the conditions for you to challenge yourself and explore your abilities. In this process the studio and the stage are every bit as important as the classroom and the playing field. That's why we require one credit in the Fine Arts for graduation and encourage students to do even more, both in and out of class. You'll have a chance to keep up the interests you had before you came here-or discover talents you didn't know you had.

Are you interested in singing? Our school choir has performed at the White House. Do you play an instrument? Twice a year the music department offers a student recital. Our student artists and photographers frequently win recognition for their work in district and national competitions. The school provides numerous opportunities for aspiring writers and journalists to see their work in print. And, by putting on three major theatrical productions every year, our students share their acting talents with a wider community.

You'll also have plenty of chances to see practicing artists in action. In addition to opportunities to visit artists' studios, students are required to attend at least one approved cultural event off campus during the school year.  Events include live theater productions at Flat Rock Playhouse, Asheville Community Theater or one of the other excellent theater companies in Asheville and the surrounding area; live music performances such as the Mountain Song Festival at the Brevard Music Center; performances by Asheville's Lyric Opera, and more.

Sign up today for this wonderful and unique experience with English Department faculty members Mr. Brent Kaneft and Mrs. Mary Dillon. Students will visit London and its surrounding areas during a ten-day tour. We will visit the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Parliament, the British Museum, the Globe, Stonehenge, Oxford, Stratford, Bath, and more! We will also attend several theater performances, and we will offer your sons the opportunity to attend a Premier League Football match. This is a once in a lifetime trip.
