Director of Student Activities

Reports to: Director of Student Life

Christ School is seeking an energetic, responsible, and motivated person to serve as our Director of Student Activities at an all-boys boarding school in the mountains of Western North Carolina. This person should be highly organized and able to engage young people in planning and overseeing activities that enhance the overall boarding school experience. The position is a 10-month employment from August-June, and reports to the Director of Student Life. Candidates will have a strong background in successfully planning and organizing activities and events, as well as working with young people in academic, athletic, and/or camp settings. Candidates willing to teach one academic course are preferred. This role will also require serving as a residential faculty member in the dorm and coaching two seasons of athletics.

Principal Duties
The primary responsibility of the Director of Student Activities is to work cooperatively with students to plan activities during the week and on the weekend. While the Director of Student Activities is not expected to lead all of the activities, he or she should be expected to supervise some of these events. Activities include local trips to the mall and movies, whitewater rafting, skiing, as well as sporting events and concerts in the Asheville and regional area. Additionally the Director of Student Activities will help coordinate weekend community service trips in cooperation with leaders in the Servant Leadership Program. Maintaining a calendar of these events and coordinating with the academic and athletic schedule is a major aspect of this job. In order to seek student input, the Director of Student Activities will oversee a Student Activities Committee comprised of students in all grades. The week leading up to Christ School’s rivalry football game against Asheville School is a spirit week and one during which the Director of Student Activities plans, organizes, and supervises the week’s events.

Duty Schedule and Transportation
The Director of Student Activities is responsible for creating the duty schedule for dorm and non-dorm personnel who supervise the campus and activities during the weekend. Creating this schedule involves advanced planning, organization, and communication. Additionally, the Director of Student Activities coordinates school vehicles for athletics, activities, and other trips.

Co-Ed Events
Christ School hosts and attends co-ed events with all-girls boarding schools in North Carolina and Virginia on a monthly basis. Planning, organizing, and supervising trips to these schools, as well as dances and other events that take place on Christ School’s campus, is one of the most important aspects of this job.

Dorm Wars
The Director of Student Activities oversees our Dorm Wars program, a yearlong competition between our dorms involving academics, athletics, service, and citizenship. Responsibilities include calculating and updating point totals, as well as organizing and supervising athletic competitions between the dorms.
